Farm Commons
Our Client
Farm Commons equips farmers and ranchers with the legal knowledge and community support they need to build resilient, sustainable agricultural businesses.
Our Approach
When Farm Commons needed to bring their in-person workshops online during the pandemic, we rapidly prototyped, tested, and launched a membership-based website that integrated with an external learning management platform (LMS). We trained their volunteer team to populate hundreds of resources, bringing their community-driven brand fully online.

Flexible Layouts for Multilingual Content
From day one, we accounted for content expansion across languages. Text containers flex dynamically, ensuring longer translations (like Spanish, which can be ~20% longer than English) maintains typographic and layout integrity across all languages.
Sappi Ideas that Matter Award Winner
In collaboration with Farm Commons, we developed a series of printed materials and templates, including a workbook that won a Sappi Ideas That Matter grant, supporting their mission to educate and empower farmers with practical legal knowledge.
Project Summary
Over many years, we partnered closely with Farm Commons’ founder to modernize how the organization delivers its legal education resources. Our work began by creating professional, standardized templates for printed workshop materials, giving their content a more polished and visually engaging format. From there, we brought Farm Commons online with a website, an online learning platform, a private social network, and a newsletter (The Sprout).
A major milestone came at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, when we launched an updated website that allowed Farm Commons to move all in-person workshops online. We guided a team of volunteers (many with no prior web editing experience) through populating hundreds of pages of content. Printed materials were digitized and made accessible through a paid membership portal, establishing a new revenue stream for supporting the non-profit into the future.
The new platform also allowed Farm Commons to translate their farm law resources into Spanish, expanding access to vital legal information for a broader community of farmers.
Throughout the project, we prioritized usability and clarity, making legal resources easy to navigate, understandable, and less intimidating for a wide audience. The result is a flexible, future-ready platform that empowers Farm Commons to educate and support farmers while adapting to evolving needs and opportunities.
